Francis Jeremiah Meaney of Stoneham, formerly of Somerville passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018. He was 80 years of age.
Born on January 1, 1938 in Somerville, Francis was the first baby born in Somerville in 1938. He graduated from Somerville High School in 1955. Following high school, Fran went into the Army and served in Colorado and Germany as a Private First Class from 1956 – 1958. He was a first-class lineman for National Grid from 1961 until 2008.
On June 10, 1961, Francis married his love, Mary Lu Maguire. He has been a friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob for 44+ years.
For Fran, his love for his family was first and foremost in his life. He loved driving his grandchildren around, watching their sports games, and playing cards especially "Pitch" with his kids and grandkids. He also loved mathematics, golfing, doing crossword puzzles at Lake Quannapowitt, Dunkin Donuts, and Leones Pizza. Fran loved to watch Jeopardy and everyone knew not to call or interrupt him from 7:30 – 8pm during the show!
Devoted father of Paul Meaney and his wife Michele, Linda Meaney Bird, Jane O'Brien and her husband Paul. Cherished grandfather of Brianna O'Brien, John "Jack" O'Brien, Daniel O'Brien, Megan Bird, Michael Bird, John "Jack" Meaney and Kate Meaney. Dear brother of John, Thomas and David, the late Catherine Lemos, the late Eugene and his late wife Patricia (Meaney) Saganey, and the late Richard Saganey. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass Celebrating Francis' Eternal Life will be held on Saturday, August 18th at 10am in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham, followed by a reception at the Winchester Country Club, 468 Mystic Street, Winchester. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather on Thursday, August 16th from 7-9pm and again on Friday, August 17th from 2-4pm & 7-9pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28), Stoneham. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment is at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
