Francis John Smith

September 25, 1910 — April 24, 2005

Francis John Smith of Reading passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Winchester Hospital. He was 94 years of age.





Born in Albany, New York, Francis was the beloved son of the late Frank J. Smith and Mary (McCann) Smith. Francis was a warm and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all.





Francis was a dedicated Freight Traffic Manager for Hudson Delaware Railroad for 49 years. He was a proud United States Coast Guard Veteran of World War II. Francis was the Secretary Treasurer of the Transportation Club of New England. He was a member of the Boston Traffic Association and the General Agents Council. Francis was also devoted to his family. They were first and foremost in his life.





Francis was the beloved husband of Janet Anne (Hart) Smith. He was the devoted father of Elaine Petersen of Bedford, New Hampshire, Maureen Wojcik of Littleton, Barry Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Keiren Stewart of North Reading, Gregory Smith of Mendham, New Jersey, Monica Eynatian of Chelmsford, Gerard Smith of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, Matthew Smith of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire. Francis was the cherished grandfather of 19. He was the dear brother of Anne Scott of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Mary O'Brien of Clearwater, Florida and the late Thomas and Patricia.





Funeral from the Joseph Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Wednesday at 8am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Francis' life in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. Reading at 9am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Tuesday 4-8pm. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot located behind Atlantic Supermarket on Haven St. Interment Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
