Francisco "Gus" Fionda of Stoneham, passed on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the age of 82.
Francisco was more commonly known as "Gus" and "Gussie" by his friends and family. He was a lifelong resident of Stoneham where he enjoyed his childhood, high school years, and happily raised his family.
He was the beloved husband of Lucy (Matrundola) Fionda for 57 memorable years. Gus was also a devoted and caring father to Ann Belanger and her husband William of Cumberland, RI, Laura Sheehan and her husband Timothy of Cumberland, RI, and Annette Fionda and her partner Jane Larsson of Sharon, MA. Gus was lovingly known as Papa to his cherished and lovely granddaughters Alexandra, Lindsay, and Lauren Sheehan. He was a dear brother to Maria Centore of Stoneham and her late husband Louis along with his late brother Louis Fionda. He was the son of the late Gaetano Fionda and Anna (Valente) Fionda. He was also a dear uncle to Virginia Valeri of Boston, MA, Joanne Messina and her husband Christopher of Stoneham, MA and the late Louis Centore and his surviving wife Lorraine of Melrose, MA. He is also survived by many additional special and loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Gus proudly served in the US Army from Year 1955 to 1958. He was a long standing member of Local 12 Plumbers Union for over 50 years and retired from the Union in Year 1996. Gus was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing football and hockey during his high school years. He was also a diehard fan of Notre Dame Football and proudly wore his ND Fighting Irish hat throughout town.
Funeral services for Gus will be held at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Friday, February 15th at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Gus' Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Thursday, February 14th from 3-7pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Stoneham.
