Franziska E. Noring, 72, died on Thursday, October 17, 2013, after a long illness, with her family by her side at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading, Massachusetts. She was a resident of Kingston, Rhode Island.
Franziska (Fran) was born on September 19, 1941 in Buffalo, NY to the late George and Christina (Hettenbaugh) Noring. The family settled in Dutchess County, NY, and she graduated from Pine Plains High School in 1958. Fran was a graduate of SUNY Oneonta, and received a Masters Degree and PhD from Ohio State University. Fran is a retired faculty and emeriti from the Human Development and Family Studies department at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. Upon her retirement, she became active in the leadership of South County Habitat for Humanity of Rhode Island. In 2012, her work was honored by the Board of Directors with the naming of Franziska Noring Road in Kingston, RI. She was an active longtime member and former Warden of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Kingston, RI. Fran was an avid reader and book club member. In addition to spending quality time with her family and friends she enjoyed travel, art, and Ohio State football.
Fran is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Christina and William Hammond of Millbrook, NY. She is also survived by her niece Jennifer Hammond-King and her husband Anthony of Millbrook, NY; and by her niece Maria Hammond Saia and her husband Anthony, Stoneham, MA. Fran was a loving great-aunt to Emily, Ryan, and David King, and Mikayla, and Alexis Saia. She is also survived by several cousins and many cherished friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating Fran's Life on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11 am in St Augustine's Episcopal Church, 15 Lower College Rd, Kingston RI 02881 with the Reverend John Hall leading the service.
