Stoneham

Frederick R. Gagnon of Stoneham passed away on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026. He was 80 years of age.

Born on Friday, January 11, 1946 in Lowell, Fred was the loving son of the late Frederick Gagnon and Eileen (Peladeau) Gagnon. Fred was a warm, kind, gentle and loyal son, husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle and friend who will be truly missed.

Fred attended Chelmsford Public Schools and graduated Chelmsford High School in 1964. He was captain of the Chelmsford Lions football team. In 1963 they were the first team in 50 years of Chelmsford history to have an undefeated season, and Fred was very proud of that accomplishment. He went on to graduate from Fitchburg State College with a degree in mathematics.

Fred began his career as a pharmaceutical salesman. Then he became a sales representative for loading dock equipment and commercial doors. He worked at Frommelt Equipment in North Reading for many years before his retirement.

Fred was an avid Boston sports fan. In his younger years he enjoyed traveling with his wife to the Caribbean and Mexico for scuba diving. During the winter he especially loved downhill skiing at Sunday River with his brother-in-law Michael and good friend Jack. He also loved vintage cars and motorcycles. He was a dog lover, and his beloved golden retriever Chloe was by his side for 13 years.

Fred was lovingly married to his wife Denise for over 42 years. They lived in Hanson for 16 years before moving to Stoneham in 2000. Fred’s greatest joy was the birth of his son in 1998. He loved watching him play sports growing up, and he was very proud of his academic achievements. Chris showed that love back by selflessly helping his mother care for his father in his final years. Fred will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends.

Fred was the beloved husband of Denise M. (Dowling) Gagnon. He was the devoted and cherished father of Christopher Gagnon. The dear brother-in-law of Linda Cerchione and her husband Michael, Jim Dowling and his wife Beth and Mike Dowling, Fred was the caring uncle of Mike Cerchione, Derek Cerchione, Will Dowling, Jack Dowling and Joe Dowling.
