George A. Hinckley

George Andrew Hinckley, 76, of Burlington, MA, passed away surrounded by his family on June 25, 2026.

George was born on November 7, 1949, in Chelsea, MA to Jean Adams Hinckley and Ernest Aspinall Hinckley. He grew up in Revere, spending his time either on the water or under the hood of a car. Following graduation from Cambridge Academy in 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Alaska where he served as a plane mechanic.

Over 25 years of dedicated service at Gillette, George rose from Mechanic to Supervisor and ultimately to Manager of Blade Manufacturing at the World Shaving Headquarters in Boston, where he oversaw the introduction of the now-iconic Gillette Sensor. Health issues prompted his retirement in 2004.

Beyond his career, George was a skilled craftsman who loved to spend his free time restoring homes and working on cars, demonstrating expertise, attention to detail, and thoughtful care in all that he did. He took great pride in maintaining the greenest lawn on Jennifer Road in Wakefield, where he raised his family. George also enjoyed traveling, whether camping in Maine or exploring destinations across the U.S., the Caribbean, and Europe.

However, family was George’s true passion. He was a devoted husband and father, and in later years, he cherished his role of “Poppi,” building model cars and tackling other hands-on projects with his grandchildren.

George leaves behind his wife of 55 years, the love of his life, Maria Donati Hinckley, of Burlington; two sons, Christopher and his wife Suzanne of North Attleboro, and David and his wife Megan of Arlington; and six grandchildren: Andrew, Ryan, Caitlin, Lauren, Mac, and Olivia. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his older brother, Janney Ernest Brooke Hinckley.

There will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in honor of George be sent to The Greater Boston Food Bank.
