George E. Macpherson

December 29, 1928 — August 4, 2009

George E. MacPherson passed on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. He was 80 years of age.



Born in Medford, George was the beloved son of Catherine (MacInnis) and George W. MacPherson. George was a lifelong resident of Reading. He was a warm and caring son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed.



During WWII, George proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Army.



George was a Captain with American Airlines and retired with over 37 years of service. He was a Founding Member of the Allied Pilots Association (APA). He was also the last surviving Member of the Allied Pilots Association Board of Directors.



George was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Thomson Country Club for 42 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #1031 and American Legion in Reading.



George was the beloved husband of Anna C. (Crouse) MacPherson and the late Joan P. MacPherson. He was the devoted father of Leslie MacPherson of Marblehead, Tracey Maloney and her husband Walter of Wakefield, Joan MacPherson of VA and Virginia Giarusso of ME. He was the cherished grandfather of 4. George was the dear brother of Marie Brown of Reading.



Funeral from the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Saturday at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating George's life in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill Street, Reading at 10 am. Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Friday from 4-8 pm in the Funeral Home. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot on Linden St. Interment Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
