Gerald F. Colford of Reading passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at his home. He was 96 years of age.
Born on September 6, 1922 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Gerald is the loving son of the late Alfred J. Colford and Annie E. (Bellefontaine) Colford. Gerald is a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Gerald was a dedicated book keeper for Reading Lumber for many years. During World War II, Gerald proudly defended our freedom by serving as a Sergeant in the United States Army. Family was the most important part of Gerald's life, along with his membership at St Agnes Parish where he was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Gerald was a fan of baseball all his life. He enjoyed listening to his collection of jazz records. Some of his other interests were photography and stamp collecting.
Gerald is the beloved husband of the late Frances H. (Hernandez) Colford. He is the devoted father of Mary E. McIntire and her late husband Edward, Jim Colford and his wife Laurene, Chris Colford and his wife Dawn and Michael Colford and his husband Scot. The cherished grandfather of Tim McIntire and his wife Megan, Amanda Cincotta and her husband Andrew, Colin Colford and Jesse Colford, Gerald is the loving great grandfather of Owen, Sawyer, Liliana and Jay. He is the dear brother of Jean Pinkston and her late husband Gordon, the late Alfred Colford and his wife Helen and the late Lawrence Colford and his wife Joan and the caring uncle of Ann Marie Colford and the late Peter Colford.
Funeral from the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Friday, November 2nd at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Gerald's Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10:30am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Thursday, November 1st from 4-7pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
