Gerald W. Horton of Reading passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at his home. He was 76 years of age.





Born in Fall River, Gerald was the loving son of the late George Horton and Jane (Webber) Horton. Gerald was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be sorely missed.





Gerald was the Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #37. He was the Imperial Rodent #80 in the National Order of Trench Rats. Gerald was one of the Top Three Military Retired. He was the Past Commander of the American Legion Post #383. In South Boston on St. Patrick's Day, he was the 100th Anniversary Chief Marshall. Gerald was the Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 685. He was a Member of the Loyal Order of Moose in North Reading Lodge 1511.





Gerald was the beloved husband of Donna (Drury) Horton. He was the devoted father of Bob Horton and his wife Sharon of Reading, Paul Horton and his wife Joanne, Bruce Horton and his wife Sandi, all of North Reading, Donald Horton of Reading. Gerald was the cherished grandfather of Chris Horton, Cody and Mia Hilton, all of North Reading, Joe McLauchlan, PFC and Andrew McLauchlan, PFC, Alyssa and Sean Horton, all of Reading, Nicole Horton of North Carolina. He was the great grandfather of Savannah Grace Horton of North Carolina. Gerald was the dear brother of Virginia Mercer of Fall River, Jean Couto of California, Sylvia Griffin of Georgia. He was pre-deceased by 4 brothers and 1 sister. Gerald was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.





A Funeral Service celebrating Gerald's life will be held on Saturday at 10am in the Chapel of the Joseph Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours, Friday 4-8pm. Parking attendants will be available. Interment Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
