Geraldine "Gerrie" (Solazzo) Carroll

April 14, 1949 — July 5, 2015

Geraldine "Gerrie" M. (Solazzo) Carroll, of Stoneham, passed away on July 5, 2015 at age 66. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Gerrie was born in Dorchester and lived in Stoughton and Medford before settling in Stoneham where she lived for the past 55 years. In 1966 she wed the love of her life James, with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. While raising her three young children, she worked part-time and was a caregiver for her mother who battled cancer. The oldest of five, Gerrie became the matriarch of her family after her mother passed, caring for her siblings and father with unparalleled love and support.

After sending her last child off to school, Gerrie began her professional career in banking where she worked for 30 years until her retirement in 2012. During her short retirement, Gerrie prepared her home in Florida where we hoped she would enjoy the fruits of her labor, enjoying a long, healthy retirement doting over the children and grandchildren she loved so much.
Diagnosed with terminal cancer soon after retirement, Gerrie faced her prognosis with the faith, grace and dignity with which she lived her life. The care and compassion that Gerrie felt and shared with others was evident in the countless prayers, cards, bouquets and other offerings of support sent to her during her three-year battle with cancer. Her loss leaves a void that will never be filled.

Gerrie was the beloved wife of James J. Carroll. She was the devoted mother of James J. Carroll, Jr., Joseph M. Carroll and his wife Lisa and Stacie J. Razzino and her husband Anthony. Gerrie was the cherished Nana of Amanda, Joey, Brendan, Eliana, Talia and Amelia. She was the loving daughter of Frank J. Solazzo and the late Jeanette (Ciulla) Solazzo. Gerrie was the dear sister of Michael Solazzo, Frank Solazzo and his wife Sharon, Jeanette Anthony and her husband John, Vincent Solazzo and his wife Leigh. She was the loving sister in law of Ann, Ruth, Kathy, Walter, Bill, Clare, John, Laurie, Mary and Terri. Gerrie is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
