Gladys I. Kenney

June 28, 1903 — January 14, 2004

Gladys I. (Finnamore) Kenney passed away peacefully and gracefully on January 14, 2004 at the Woburn Nursing Center after a short illness. She was in her 101st year.

She was a resident of the Fuller House in Stoneham, which provided her with a loving, safe and comfortable home for several years.

Gladys Irene Finnamore was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada on June 28, 1903 of parents Charles and Laura (Pond) Finnamore. She received her nursing certification from the Yarmouth Hospital in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in 1926 and came to the U.S. in 1927 where she worked for a time at the Quincy Hospital. She was married in 1928 to Charles Morse Kenney of Beverly. They came to Stoneham in 1932 and resided on Everett Street for many years. After the untimely death of her husband in 1957, she again obtained her Massachusetts nurses certification and was employed at the Winchester Hospital for several years until retirement. Charles and Gladys Kenney had three children, Charles Richard of Hampton, Virginia, Patricia Joan Huntington (recently deceased) of Brunswick, Maine and James William of Marblehead. She has nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was a member of St. James Methodist Church and the Stoneham Women's Club for many years. Throughout her life and right up to her final days, Gladys was a inspiration and role model to her family and those around her through her independent spirit, zest for life, industry, self-reliance and devotion.

Her interment at the Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody will be private.
