Harold R. Bolivar

September 7, 1920 — February 14, 2012

Harold R Sr., a Reading resident for 61 years, passed away quietly on February 14, 2012, at home surrounded by family. He was 91 years of age. Harold was the beloved husband, partner and friend for 69 years of Esther (Melanson) Bolivar. He was the devoted father of Delores M DeCicco and her husband Frank of East Hampstead, NH and Harold "Reggie" Bolivar Jr. and his wife Cindi, of Reading. Cherished "Papa" of Frank P DeCicco IV and his wife Annette of Laguna Niguel, California; Mark DeCicco and his fiance Kim Kipp of South Boston; Lauren DeCicco of Methuen; Jennifer (Bolivar) DeMoura and her husband Kris of Ashburnham and the late Joey Bolivar of Reading. Grand-Papa to Creighton and Kielyn DeMoura and Isabella DeCicco. Born in Barss Corner, Nova Scotia, Harold was the loving son of the late Joseph and Ola (Morton) Bolivar. The family moved to Medford, MA when Harold was very young. Harold was the brother of the late Robert Bolivar.



Harold was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1938 and attended Northeastern University, where he was a key player on the Huskies Hockey Team. During WW II, Harold proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Army, while stationed in the Philippines where he received the bronze service star, good conduct medal and a victory medal. Harold was an avid golfer and was proud of his two plaques for "Hole in One" on Middleton Golf Course and Twin Brooks Golf Course. Harold and his wife loved to travel. They made several trips across the United States by car and traveled to many other locations and islands over the years but Florida was their favorite "home away from home." Harold will be missed by his family and friends.



Funeral from the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Saturday at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Harold's Eternal Life in St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Friday from 4-7 pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery, Reading.
