Helen Catherine Doiron, age 86, passed away on March 3, 2023. A former resident of Somerville, Reading, and North Reading, she was predeceased by her husbands, Joseph Griffin (1970) and Robert Doiron (2010). Loving mother of the late Joseph Griffin and his wife Pamela Brown, Daniel Griffin and his wife Rita and Christine Griffin and her husband Patrick Dowe. Beloved aunt to Kathleen Mahoney and her husband Joseph. Dear “Nana” to Brianne and her husband Jeff Citero, Julie and her fiancé Connor Chase, Joseph, and Geneva Griffin; Samantha, Riley, and Mikayla Dowe. Predeceased by her parents Timothy and Anna McCarthy, brother John “Chuck” McCarthy, sisters Marion Oliphant, Ann Gaudet, and Dorothy Scully.
Helen was a devoted and beloved daughter to both her parents, and a selfless, loving mother to her three children. Her favorite role was “Nana” to her seven grandchildren whom she cherished and were an unending source of pride and joy. Helen was an animal lover and especially devoted to her five grandpuppies.
Her Roman Catholic faith was a source of comfort and strength for Helen and it guided her endless generosity to others throughout her life. She was a faithful parishioner at St. Agnes Church in Reading for 50 years and volunteered at the North Reading Town Hall. Helen was a caring neighbor in her Central Place Condominium residence where she enjoyed spending time with her community of friends. Helen lived her life by always placing others before herself. She provided a warm, loving, welcoming home for her family. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend, always the first to offer comfort, prayers, meals, babysitting, or even just a sympathetic ear to anyone in need. Helen lived a life of limitless generosity and was a source of love, laughter, and comfort to those who were blessed to know her.
Family and friends are invited to gather and share remembrances at the Doherty-Barile Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street, Reading, on Friday, March 10th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot on Linden Street. A funeral mass celebrating Helen’s life will take be taking place on Saturday, March 11th at 10:00 AM at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St., Reading, MA. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
