Henry E. Sutermeister

d. July 9, 2009

Henry E. "Hank" Sutermeister of Brentwood, NH formerly of Stoneham passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009. He was 63 years of age.

Born in Malden, Massachusetts on October 29, 1945, Hank was the loving son of the late Henry E. Sutermeister and Marion G. (Allin) Sutermeister. Hank was a much loved and devoted father and "DA" to his grandchildren. He loved his family and grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.

Hank graduated from Stoneham High School in 1963 after being involved in many social activities. During Vietnam, Hank proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Army. He was an active member of the Stoneham Elks. Hank lived in Florida for many years, where he retired after sixteen years as a diesel mechanic for Walt Disney World. He spent many years coaching his daughter's softball teams.

Hank spent his final years living in Brentwood, New Hampshire. Living his life to the fullest, Hank would wake up every morning being so grateful that he was alive. Hank enjoyed nature so much that he could not decide if he liked the mountains or ocean better and decided that he liked both of them the same. He called himself a reality therapist because he did not have room in his life for any nonsense. He made people laugh and made new friends easily, from elementary school forward. Always easy to converse with and made people feel comfortable to be who they were. His was a life defined by family and he will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Hank was the former husband of Catherine (Gipson) Sutermeister. He was the Loving companion of Lorraine A. Woods. Hank was the devoted father of Keith Sutermeister and his wife Stephanie, Leigh Finch and her husband Tony, Brian Sutermeister and his wife Donna, Stephanie Hall and her husband Craig, all of Florida, Jason Woods of North Reading, Julie Carmilia and her husband John of NH. He was the cherished grandfather of 8. Hank was the loving brother of Marion L. Sutermeister, Barbara Ryan and her husband Milton, Mary Jordan and her husband Daniel, all of Stoneham, William Sutermeister and his wife Theresa of Taunton and the late Michael Sutermeister. He is also survived by many loving aunts, nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Tuesday at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Hank's life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Monday from 4-8 pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available.
