James J. Callanan

September 10, 1927 — December 29, 2006

James Joseph Callanan of Wakefield and New Port Richey, Forida passed away Friday, December 29, 2006. He was 79 years of age.





Born in Malden, James was the beloved son of the late Ernest and Lillian (Reilly) Callanan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His wife and family were first and foremost in his life.





James was a resident of Wakefield from 1954-1985. He then retired to New Port Richey Florida till 2003. He retired from New England Tel/ A T T after 38 years of being a technician. He was Past Exalted Ruler of the Wakefield Lodge of Elks, a Member of the Wakefield Knights of Columbus, a Member of St. Florence Holy Name Society and a judge for Drum and Bugle Corps. Jim was a former US Navy Veteran, serving our Country during WW II and the Korean Conflict.





Jim was the beloved husband of the late Bernice (O'Leary) Callanan. He was the devoted father of Jay Callanan and his wife Martha, Chris Callanan, Jean Maio and her husband Steve all of Wakefield, Marie McCarthy and husband Tim of Stoneham, Paul Callanan and wife Tammy of Salem and Andy Callanan and his companion Sher Nelson of Cottonwood Arizona. He was the cherished grandfather of Brendan Callanan and his wife Jessica, Brian Callanan and his wife Ariel, Caitlin Callanan, Rachel Callanan, Matthew McCarthy, CJ Callanan, Adam Callanan, Meghan Callanan, Melissa Callanan, Gretchen Callahan, Kyle Callahan, Paula Callanan, Stephen Maio, Justin Maio and Nicholas Maio and loving great grandfather of Kayleigh Callanan. Jim was the dear brother of the late Patricia Lucca.





Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Tuesday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating James' life in St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours Monday, 4-8pm. Parking attendants will be on duty. Interment Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.





Donations in memory of James may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
