James J. Doherty a longtime Reading resident passed on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 73 years of age.
Born in Boston, James was the beloved son of Mary (Reddy) Doherty and William Doherty. James was a warm and caring son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be sorely missed.
James grew up in Charlestown and Somerville. He graduated from BC High School and was an Alumni of Suffolk University.
James proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Army.
James worked as an insurance broker for 30 years at Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company.
James was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Clements) Doherty. He was the devoted father of Jim Doherty, Patti DeMild, Mary Stuart, Ann Marie Cronin, John Doherty, Bill Doherty, Bob Doherty and Rosie Doherty. James was the cherished grandfather of Patrick, Michael, Allison, Krista, Benjamin, Isabella, Daniel, Brian and Shane. He was the dear brother of Mary Sullivan and the late Susan Doherty.
Funeral from the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating James' life in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill Street, Reading at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Sunday from 3-6 pm in the Funeral Home. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot on Linden St. Interment Charles Lawn Memorial Park, Reading.
