James B. "Jim" Hanley, Sr.

James B. “Jim” Hanley, Sr. of Stoneham, formerly of Brookline passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 with his loving family by his side.  He was 88 years of age.

Born on October 15, 1934 in Boston, beloved husband for 65 years to Mildred “Millie” Hanley. He was a warm, kind, loyal and gentle son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed.

Born and raised in Brookline, MA, Jim began his career in the banking industry beginning with  Brookline Savings Bank from 1958-1979 as Assistant Treasurer. In 1979 he moved his family to Stoneham, MA to accept a position with Mass Bank for Savings as Assistant Vice President.  In 1985 Mass Bank was acquired by Eastern Bank where he continued his employment until he retired in 1991. After his retirement he decided he missed working and went to work for Middlesex Federal Savings in Somerville, MA for approximately 5 years before he made the decision to fully retire.

Aside from his family, his greatest love was the Boston Red Sox, Cape Cod, Naples, Florida and Suffolk Downs.

He was the devoted father of Juliann Powers and her husband John, Eleanor Clark and her husband Ross, William Hanley and his wife Andrea and the late James Hanley, Jr and his surviving wife Jennifer.  The cherished grandfather of John, Andrew and his wife Alana, Alexandra, Jeff and his wife Logan, Tim, Nick, Connor, Emily, William, Caelin and Danny and great grandfather of Madilyn & Charlotte.

A Funeral Mass Celebrating Jim’s Eternal Life will be held on Tuesday, January 17^th 10am in Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central Street Stoneham.  Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Jim’s Family on Tuesday from 8:30 – 9:30am in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street Stoneham.  Parking attendants and elevator are available.  Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
