James Edward “Jug” McGlinchey of Haverhill, formerly of Reading passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022. He is 71 years of age.
Born on Sunday, December 31, 1950 in Somerville, Jug is the loving son of Ruth (Mack) McGlinchey and her late husband Edward. Jug is a gentle, kind & warm son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.
“Jug” was a graduate of Reading Memorial High School, class of 1968 and a graduate of Northern Essex Community College. Although he had a love for weather and wanted to be a Meteorologist; He went on to be a dedicated 40 year employee of Allcoat Technology (formerly Raffi & Swanson.) During his employment he held various positions, but retired as the Production and Supply Manager in September, 2021.
In Jug’s younger days he enjoyed surfing, playing guitar, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family at their camp on Pleasant Lake in Elkins, NH. One of Jug’s favorite pastimes was photography and when video cameras surfaced, he basically became a videographer. Anyone that knows Jug, knows he was always “the man behind the camera.”
In 1983, he married the love of his life, Laurie and became a devoted husband and an amazing father to Crystal. He loved nothing more than to see his family happy.
Jug was an avid New England sports fan. He particularly enjoyed watching the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots, but when Jon was born in 1987, he became his biggest fan. He then could be found spending his days attending sporting events, school functions, skiing, rollerblading, fishing and so much more. Jon kept him busy.
As Jon got older and things settled down Jug could be found at home enjoying his yard and pool, in which he took great pride. On summer days Jug enjoyed spending time at the beach, grilling, yard work and entertaining friends and family with his beloved dog Lucy by his side.
During winter months he enjoyed cheering on sports teams and hosting “Stromboli Sundays” for all those he openly welcomed into his home.
Jug was able to enjoy this past winter with his wife of 38 years and their friends at their home in Punta Gorda. He spent his final winter exploring beaches, watching sunsets and attending drum circles. He even took up a new hobby, searching for shark teeth and beach treasures. Although much too short, he enjoyed every moment of his retirement.
This summer he spent up North enjoying quality time with his family and friends. Jug fell ill in August and after a brief illness and courageous battle he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
He will forever be missed here on earth, but please find solace in him being reunited with his beloved son Jon, whom he missed so much
Jug is the beloved husband of Laureen L. (Day) McGlinchey. He is the devoted father of Crystal Chambers and the late Jon McGlinchey. The dear brother of Richard McGlinchey and his wife Pauline, Nancy Glennon and her husband Bill, Patricia Barbato and her husband Mark, Maureen Ochs and her husband Michael and Gail Goggin and her husband Bobby, Jug is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
