James F. Kiley, most affectionately known as "Big Jim", passed away on Thursday, June 20th, 2019 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, surrounded by his family at the age of 69.
Born in Winchester, he is the son of the late Francis and Jacqueline (Keefe) Kiley. Jim was raised in Reading and graduated from Reading High School Class of 68. He then attended UMASS Amherst. Jim was a talented athlete. Jim was a dynamic three sport star, earning nine varsity letters and playing a role in the success of six Middlesex League championship teams. He was an ML All-Star as a junior and excelled as a senior. He won the league scoring title and the Ingersoll Award. He ended his football career by being names to the Record-American All-Scholastic team and earning honorable mention in the Boston Globe and Boston Traveler Team. During his hockey career, he was rewarded when he was named a first team Middlesex League All Start in the 1967-69 season. Jim was chosen in the eighth round of the 1968 major league baseball draft by the Chicago White Sox.
Jim was a hard worker. He owned and operated James F. Kiley Construction for many years. Jim enjoyed skiing, hunting and fishing. He was a true outdoorsman. Most importantly, Jim was a devoted family man. His bigger than life personality, humor and big heart will truly be missed by his family and many friends.
Jim is the long time love of Sheila Sillari. The devoted father of Krista Conroy and her husband Simon, James M. Kiley and his wife Jacelyn and Dina Metrano and her husband Glen. Cherished grandfather of Isabel and Lily Conroy, Amber, Joshua and Michael Kiley and Anthony, Nicolas, Christopher and Joseph Metrano. Loving brother of John Kiley, Francis Kiley and his wife Pamela, Maureen Maddock and her husband Billy, Cathy Guise and her husband Nick and Jill McFadden and her husband John. He is also the uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Jim's family at the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St., Reading on Tuesday, June 25th, 2019 from 3pm-6:30pm. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
A Funeral Service will be held immediately following the visitation at 6:30pm.
