James Patrick Maloney

December 11, 1929 — July 3, 2012

MALONEY, James Patrick, Jr. of Reading, died peacefully at home in the arms of his loving wife and children on July 3, 2012 at age 82, due to complications from bladder cancer treatment. Survived by a loving family. Beloved husband of Phyllis A. (Patrick) Maloney. Jim married Phyllis on October 11, 1958, at St. Agnes Church in Reading, and together they celebrated 53 years of marriage and raised three loving children. Devoted father of Patricia A. Maloney of Phoenix, AZ, James P. Maloney III and his wife Rosaline of Redwood City, CA, Maribeth A. Maloney and her husband Gregory C. Chotkowski of Scottsdale, AZ. Cherished grandfather of August M. Chotkowski and Honor J. Chotkowski, both of Scottsdale, AZ. Dear brother of the late Flora Mather and her late husband Ken, and of the late Teresa Ann Oliveria, survived by his brother in law Neil J. Oliveria of Lowell. Born on December 11, 1929 in Winthrop, loving son of the late James P. Maloney and Flora F. (Tranfaglia) Maloney. Also survived by many loving relatives and dear friends. Jim loved sports, most of all bowling and baseball, and was the ultimate Boston Braves and Red Sox fan. He was recognized as an unsung hero while coaching his son's little league baseball teams for making sure each boy got a chance to play. Jim always led with a smile... to him there was no such thing as a stranger, only friends he hadn't yet met. He also had many interests: he was active in his children's school parent programs, an usher at St. Agnes Church, a dedicated blood donor at Massachusetts General Hospital Blood Bank, a companion volunteer at Winchester Hospital, a crossing guard for the Town of Reading Police Department, and a greeter at Walmart. He loved traveling around the world, especially to visit his children and grandchildren. US Air Force Veteran, Korea. Funeral from the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Saturday at 8am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating James' Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 9am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Friday from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available.
