Jeanne L. (Rourke) Kane, 83, beloved wife of Robert D. Kane, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2017 surrounded by her family. Born in Cambridge on February 6, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude Louise (O'Reilly) Rourke.
Jeanne was raised in Medford and attended Matignon High School in Cambridge. She graduated from Merrimack College where she met her future husband, Bob. Additional graduate studies were at Boston University and Lesley College. Jeanne and Bob raised their family in Medford, where she worked as an elementary school teacher in the public schools. Jeanne enjoyed taking long drives along the ocean with Bob and her family, was an avid reader and moviegoer, and loved the company of her book club and breakfast club. Most of all, she relished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law and grandmother. She bravely survived breast cancer for 33 years, to our great admiration. Jeanne was committed to her faith and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
In addition to her husband of 58 years, Robert, she is survived by her four children: Lauren Kane Gallagher and her husband John Gallagher, David Kane, Sheila Pandiscio and her husband Paul, and Vincent Kane and his wife Jennifer; five grandchildren: Sydney and Kyle Pandiscio, and Allison, Meghan and Dylan Kane; two sisters: Sheila Coté and her husband Warren, and Maryellen Lamoureux and her husband Donald; sister-in-law: Carole Rourke; and survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her brother Gerald Rourke.
Friends and family are cordially invited to gather and share memories during a wake at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street, Stoneham on Friday, September 15th from 4 to 8 pm.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Jeanne's Eternal Life will be held at Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham, on Saturday, September 16th at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Private burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford, immediately after the Memorial Service.
