Jeannette (Bourque) Carroll of Stoneham, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, September 1, 2023. She was 97 years of age. She was born in Belleville, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia in 1926 before relocating to the United States with her family. She was raised in Melrose, and met the love of her life, Joseph, on a blind date in 1948. Together they raised four children in Stoneham, in a house that her father designed and helped build.
In her lifetime she enjoyed bowling, ballroom dancing, gardening, crocheting, cross stitch, sewing and classic movies. Jeannette and her husband were active members of the Melrose chapter of the AARP. Jeannette also enjoyed making Rappie Pie for her family, a traditional French Acadian dish that is popular in her homeland of Nova Scotia. More than anything she enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family. She was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed.
Jeannette was the daughter of the late Dennis and Chantal (Babin) Bourque. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Joseph E. Carroll, Sr. She leaves a son, Joseph Jr. and his wife Ellen of Londonderry, NH; daughter, Maureen Desveaux and her husband Rich of Litchfield, NH; son Michael and his wife Donna of Pepperell; daughter Linda Gosselin and her husband Kenneth of New Boston, NH, as well as 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings Antoinette Spencer and her husband Bill of Melrose, Rosalie Vacon and her husband Victor of Stoneham, Harold Bourque and his wife Betty of Stoneham, and Dennis Bourque and his wife Sally of New Mexico. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) Stoneham on Friday, September 8th at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Jeannette’s Eternal Life at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Thursday, September 7th from 4-7pm in the funeral home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Stoneham.
