Joan D. (Carroll) Machado

Joan D. (Carroll) Machado of Stoneham, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Woburn Nursing Center. She was 87 years of age.

Born and raised in Stoneham, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late John and Nora (Kirby) Carroll. She attended St. Patrick's School. Joan doted on her three younger siblings Johnny, Evelyn and Charlie.

Joan was a warm and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Joan loved her family and always put family first and never thought of herself. She made sure everyone had what they needed before her own needs. She was a strong willed woman and she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders. She led a simple and quiet life raising three kids. She taught her children to be strong, to live life as best you can and to always remember things will always get better. Joan loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends from all over who adored her and loved her great sense of humor.

Joan worked at Maynard H. Moore Leather Factory for over 25 years and at Tympanium Electronics for 15 years before retiring. She was a woman who worked hard all her life. She was never afraid to work.

Joan loved to watch movies and she had a few favorite shows including Dancing with the Stars. She loved the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics. Her favorites were the Patriots and Red Sox. Joan loved to take trips when she could, she loved Rockport and any place with an ocean and enjoyed watching the birds outside.

Joan was the devoted mother of Ann Marie Ray, Michael Machado and his wife Lynne and the late Roger Machado, Jr. She was the cherished grandmother of Tommy, Chris, Nick, Mike and Tina. Joan was the loving great grandmother of Cody, Jayden and Hayden. She was the dear sister of John Carroll and Dora, Evelyn Carroll, Charlie Carroll and Judy and the late Walter Carroll, Phil Carroll, Jackie Carroll and Margie Carroll. The sister in law of Claire Carroll and the late Ruth Carroll, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late John and Nora (Kirby) Carroll. She was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service celebrating Joan's Life will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 7pm in the Chapel of the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family prior to the Service beginning at 4pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and handicapped elevator are available.
