Joan M. (Casali) Sweeney, of Stoneham and formerly of Belmont, beloved wife of the late Paul E. Sweeney, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Somerville, she is the daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Allen) Casali.
Joan grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. For many years, Joan worked as the executive administrative assistant to the president of Mount Auburn Hospital and she was also the executive administrative assistant to the president of Kay Instruments. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Stoneham, a lover of animals and a talented piano player. Joan enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining friends and family. Joan loved summering at her home in the Manomet area of Plymouth and vacationing with her family in Florida. She was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews and will truly be missed by her family and friends.
She is the Loving sister of Joseph Casali and his wife Geraldine of S.C., William Casali and his wife Carole of S.C., the late Elizabeth Murphy and her late husband Michael, the late Nancy DelTorto and the Anthony DelTorto. Cherished aunt to Ann Mariano and her late husband David, Fran Murphy, Michael Murphy and his wife Arlene, Joseph Casali, Jr., Tina Zaniboni and her late husband Edward, Annette Pace and her husband Keith, Joan Casali, Linda Kolnik, the late Stephen DelTorto, Sandra DelTorto, Nancy DelTorto, the late Anthony DelTorto. Godmother of Dean DelTorto and Julia Zaniboni and Great Aunt to many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM on Thursday, January 24th, 2019 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Joan's Eternal Life at St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10am.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Joan's family at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019 from 4 to 7pm.
Interment will be in Newton Cemetery.
