John Walter Biggio

December 28, 1937 — May 4, 2010

John Walter Biggio, 'Jack' of Stoneham, MA went to heaven on May 4th at the age of 72, marking` the end of a courageous battle with cancer.



He was born on December 28, 1937 in Winchester, MA to John and Marcella (Langone) Biggio. He lived the majority of his life in Stoneham, graduating from Stoneham High School where he was a 2-way starter in football and a hockey player. He married his high school sweetheart Bette (Mitchell) Biggio on March 2, 1957 in Pelham, NH and together they raised 4 children.



Jack completed the General Electric Apprenticeship program and worked for 30 years in the Jet Engine and Facilities Management divisions. Through his work he gave his family the opportunity to spend time living in Greece and traveling through Europe, even visiting his own grandmother. He worked for Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates as a Facilities Management Administrator for the remainder of his career.



Jack was very involved in the town including serving as Town Wire Inspector, a member of the Planning Board, and a member of the Board of Selectman. His tireless work and dedication was instrumental in the development of the Stoneham Town Common.



He was also a master of all trades including electrical and carpentry often donating his skills to others' projects big and small. A constant 'do'er', Jack always had something that he was working on.



Jack was a consummate Stonehamite, who following his own parents' example, was a diehard sports fan. He passed that love onto his own children, coached Stoneham Youth Hockey and attended countless sporting events. He was also a lifelong member of the Order of Red Men and past Sachem.



As a child, he grew to love the lakes and mountains of New Hampshire, a love which he maintained throughout his life, spending each summer at the Biggio compound on Bear Island, Lake Winnipesaukee and every winter in Bartlett. Swimming, boating and water skiing during the summer; snow skiing and snowmobiling in the winter.



Jack later expanded his captaining skills from smaller vessels to become captain of 'The Vision', his 43 foot trawler, on which he spent 7 years exploring the Caribbean.



In his last days Jack was surrounded by his family and friends, including his wife of 53 years, Bette; his children John Biggio. Jr. of Bartlett, NH, Pamela and Peter Clemens of Billerica, MA, Heidi and Michael Bilbo of Stoneham, MA, and Robert and Michele Biggio of Reading, MA; his grandchildren Tarah, Samantha, Melinda, Christopher, Marina, Abigail, Jacquelyn, Jessica, Meredith, Brian, Paul, John; his great granddaughter Livia Lynne; and his beloved Yorkie terrier Max. Besides his family, Jack leaves an army of impressed and devoted friends whose lives he greatly enhanced.



He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Biggio.



Jack strove for excellence in everything that he encountered, always reaching for perfection. He will be remembered for his kindness, compassion and integrity. An incredible and loving man, he was never happier than when he was surrounded by family and friends.



Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday May 10 in St. Patrick's Church, Stoneham at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Saturday 4-8 p.m. in the Barile Funeral Home, 482 Main St., Stoneham. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jack's name to the American Cancer Society, 18 Tremont St., Suite 700, Boston, MA 02108.
