John Harold Bourque

August 17, 1929 — April 15, 2017

John Harold Bourque, 87, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Jamieson) Bourque, passed away on Saturday, April 15th at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. Born in Melrose during the Great Depression, the youngest of five children; he is the son of the late Dennis and Chantel (Babin) Bourque.

John grew up in Melrose. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 during the Korean War. John was known as an Atomic Bomb Veteran. He had taken part of the atomic bomb testing at Camp Desert Rock in Nevada, registering the radiation with a geiger counter. John was discharged in 1954. He was a true Downeaster. John was proud of his Acadian Heritage. He always enjoyed a good piece of Rappie Pie. John was a carpenter by trade, loved to golf and was into genealogy; he especially loved going to Nova Scotia for the Bourque Family Reunion. John was a devoted husband and father. He spent the last few years taking care of his wife. He will truly be missed by his loving family.

In addition to his wife of 58 years Elizabeth, he is survived by his four children: Stephen J. Bourque and his wife Ivy, Nancy A. Kanouff and her husband Charlie, Michael P. Bourque and his wife Mina and Michelle S. Trottier and her husband Ron; nine grandchildren: C.J., Christopher, Charnele, Melissa, Serena, Drew, Jonathan, Kevin and Holly; three siblings: Antoinette Marie Spencer, Jeanette Carroll and Dennis Bourque; along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Rosalie Vacon.

Visiting hours will be held at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St., (RT 28) STONEHAM on Saturday, April 22nd from 11:30am-1:00pm. A Funeral Service Celebrating John's Eternal Life will be held at 1pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
