John F. Cronin

June 17, 1926 — October 13, 2012

John F. Cronin, of Reading, passed away on Saturday October 13, 2012, at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, GRECC, Bedford, MA surrounded by his family.





Born in Malden on June 17, 1926, John was the son of the late John G. Cronin and Catherine F. (Hallissy) Cronin.





John proudly served our Country as a member of the United States Navy. As a Navy Veteran, he served during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the crew of the USS McCracken, USS Atlanta, USS Miami, and the USS Prinz Eugen.





Upon his retirement, he volunteered at the Charlestown Navy Yard on the U.S.S. Cassin Young. He was a lifelong member of the Reading Knights of Columbus, Council 1031 and also a Communicant of St. Athanasius Church in Reading.





John was the beloved husband of Elizabeth C. (Brown) Cronin. He was the loving father of Michael Cronin and his wife Angela of Medford, Laurie Zubricki and her husband Thomas Zubricki of Brookline NH, Dexter "Dusty" Cronin and his wife Joan of Winchester, Thomas Cronin and his wife Catherine of Newton, NH, Mary Kate Ricci and her husband Michael Ricci of Brookline, NH and Matthew Cronin and his wife Patricia of Troy IL. John was the cherished grandfather of 13 and great grandfather of 1. He was the devoted brother of Patricia Cronin Coates, Barbara Cronin LaRochelle, and the late Mary Connors, Margaret Reilly, Katherine Casey and her surviving husband Joseph, and Claire Boland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.





Family and friends are kindly invited to a Memorial Mass Celebrating John's Eternal Life in St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. READING on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 10am.
