John (Jack) Patrick Farrell, Sr., 78, a longtime resident of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 7. He and his wife, Dorothea (Dottie), were married for 40 years.





Jack grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Boston Commerce High School in 1952. He attended the Bentley School of Accounting and graduated from Northeastern University in 1971 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He retired from the Boston Edison Company in 1996 as a division manager of customer service. He worked for the Edison Company for 43 years.





Jack also served in the military for 40 years, retiring as a Sergeant Major in the Massachusetts National Guard after serving 21 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve, achieving a final rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He received several awards and commendations for his service.





Jack was a very active parishioner and volunteer with Saint Patrick Parish in Stoneham. He served as a lector, a Eucharistic minister and an adult funeral server, and he was a member of the Parish Council for many years. As one of the founding members of the parish's Food Group, he helped to organize parish trips to prepare and serve food at homeless shelters. For more than 18 years, as director of the RCIA, he also led dozens of parishioners on their journeys to become members of the Catholic Church.

Jack loved to spend time with his family, read, volunteer in his community, sing and listen to music, garden, and watch the Boston Red Sox.





In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, John Jr. (Sean) and his wife, Melanie, of Locust Grove, Virginia; Maureen Schnee, and her husband, David, of Billerica, and Katie Lovett and her husband, Travis, of Wakefield, his two granddaughters, Olivia Rose Farrell and Caroline Jane Schnee, his sisters and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.





Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Monday at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating John's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 9am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Sunday from 2-6 pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
