John B. Jenks, long time resident of Reading, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, December 31, 2021, at his family home with his daughter Pam and son-in-law Chris by his side. He was 85 years of age.
John was born in Portland Maine; he was son of the late Leo M. and Grace A. (Deering) Jenks and graduated from Deering High School in Deering Maine. John proudly served our Country during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal in the United States Army. In 1966 John used his G.I. Bill to purchase a home in Reading, where he and his late wife, Terri raised their family and resided for 56 years.
John loved watching football, baseball, and hockey but his greatest love was playing and watching golf. He enjoyed drawing, was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing sports as well as his favorite subject American History. John loved to work in his yard and sit on his front porch in the sun in the afternoon reading, visiting with neighbors and waving when they drove or walked by his house.
John is the beloved husband of the late Teresa (Cogliano). He is the devoted father of Pam Jenks and her husband Chris Tello of Reading, John Jenks and his wife Pamela of Reading, and Linda (Landis) Harris and her husband Richy of N. Reading. John is the loving grandfather of Michael Harris of Marlborough, Cory Harris of N. Andover, Kristina Harris of Merrimac MA and Julia and Allie Jenks of Reading and great grandfather of Abigail Harris of Marlborough. He is the dear brother of Mary Scalli of Gloucester and the late Joseph Jenks, James Jenks, Catherine (Jenks) DeAngelis, and Theresa (Jenks) Leone. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. John will be dearly missed by his family and many neighbors and friends.
Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Saturday February 5th in the Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING from 11-1 followed by a Funeral Service Celebrating John's Eternal Life at 1 pm. Parking attendants and elevator available.
