John Andrew Lewis

April 5, 1934 — November 14, 2006

John Andrew Lewis Jr. of Stoneham, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Melrose Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. He was 72 years of age.





Born in Medford, John was the loving son of the late John A. Lewis and Alice (Smith) Lewis. John was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend. He will be sadly missed.





John was a dedicated Mechanical Engineer for Polaroid for many years. He was an avid sports fan. He loved the Patriots, the Red Sox and never missed any of his grandchildren's sports games. He could always be seen walking around Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield. A devout Catholic, John regularly attended the 4pm Saturday Mass at St. Patrick's Church in Stoneham. He was a very quiet and private man who enjoyed his regular golf game at Unicorn Golf Course in Stoneham. During the Korean War, John proudly defended our country in the United States Army.





John loved his family, especially his grandchildren. They were first and foremost in his life. His love for them went unparalleled. He proudly walked all three of his daughters down the aisle of St. Patrick's Church for their weddings.





John was the beloved husband for 48 years of Marie T. (Murphy) Lewis. He was the devoted father of Terri Orsillo and her husband Vincent of Haverhill, Patricia Alongi and her husband Robert of Wakefield and Karen Safina and her husband Nick of Reading. John was the cherished grandfather of Vinny, Angela and John Orsillo, Jacqueline, Robert and Jennifer Alongi and Nicholas and Victoria Safina. He was the dear brother of Elinor Lewis of Salem, New Hampshire. John was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.





Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Friday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating John's life in St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8pm. Parking attendants will be on duty. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
