John F. Mahoney

August 14, 1920 — July 17, 2005

John F. "Jack" Mahoney of Stoneham passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Winchester Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 84 years of age.





Born in Belmont, Jack was the beloved son of the late John F. Mahoney and Christina (Kirsting) Mahoney. Jack was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all.





Jack was the owner of J.F. Mahoney & Sons Inc. installation business for over 39 years, installing science labs in the New England states, Puerto Rico and Germany. Mr. Mahoney served the Town of Stoneham as a Selectman and on many committees. He was chairman of the original Recycling Committee. He was named "Father of Town Day" and Citizen of the Year. Jack was appointed to the Zoo New England Board of Directors by Senator Richard Tisei. During World War II, Mr. Mahoney served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps.





Jack was the beloved husband of Barbara (Burnett) Mahoney. He was the former husband of the late Josephine (Driscoll) Mahoney. Jack was the devoted father of Susan Smith and her husband Matthew of Yarmouth, Maine, John F. Mahoney Jr. of Stoneham, Gerald Mahoney of San Francisco, California. Mr. Mahoney was the step father of Catherine McDonough of Lynn, Mary Ann Lambert of Maui, Michael Stevans of Cortland, New York, Frank Spaniak of Tacoma, Washington, Charles Spaniak of Beverly, George Burnett of Allston. He was the cherished grandfather of Patricia McGuire, John F. Mahoney III, William & Jason Mahoney of Stoneham, Alexandra & Gregory Smith of Yarmouth, Maine. Jack was the dear brother of Mary Johnson of Arkansas.





Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Thursday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Jack's life in St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours Wednesday 3-7pm. Parking attendants will be on duty. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
