John enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved hiking, rock climbing, camping and the outdoors. He climbed Mount Washington multiple times with his father and brothers. He spent many days swimming and boating at his Grandparents' cottage in Maine. He loved to travel and had recently returned from a trip to Dublin and Galway, stopping first in London to visit friends. He had also recently visited friends in Germany. He enjoyed frequent visits to Chicago and Montreal. He loved his family, his parents, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and his large network of friends.
John's greatest passion was Scouting. He became an Eagle Scout in 2005 and served the Scouts as Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop 513; as Program Director at TL Storer Scout Camp; as Course Director, National Youth Leadership Training; and as Lodge Chief, Order of the Arrow. Over the years he earned many awards from the Boy Scouts including the Founders Award (Order of the Arrow), Centurion Award (Order of the Arrow) and the James E. West Fellowship Award. In the tradition of the OA John was truly a Servant Leader. A friend has written that "John's legacy wasn't just helping others it was teaching those people to serve others, thus extending a network of servant leaders."
John will be greatly missed but he will live on in our hearts. May the example of his life inspire us to be a light in the lives of others.
