John A. Polimeno

John A. Polimeno of Reading, retired Labor Official and former photoengraver employed at the Boston Dailey Newspapers died on November 6, 2015, he was 84 years of age.

Born in East Boston, Mr. Polimeno attended Boston University and was a graduate of the Massachusetts Military Academy and the Engineer School at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He served as an engineer officer in the Yankee Division 101 Engineer Battalion, 182nd Regimental Combat Team 379th Engineers, and the Army Reserve. Mr. Polimeno started his career in 1947 at the advertising department of the old Boston Record American and then onto the engraving department. He was employed through the transition of the Boston Herald American and the now Boston Herald. His union labor service spanned over 25 years, the last 12 of which was as full time Secretary Treasurer and Vice President of Local 600M of the Graphic Communications International Union, (now) GCC/IBT). Mr. Polimeno completed a number of courses at the George Meany Center for Labor Studies, was delegate to every international convention from 1974, and a trustee on numerous funds. Upon his retirement from the union he was honored to be appointed Sgt. at Arms to two successive international conventions of the international union.

Throughout his retirement he was an active volunteer for Reading Elder Services as a medical escort, and remained a strong advocate for retirees. He was a communicant of both St. Agnes Church in Reading and St. Joseph's in Wakefield, and a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Polimeno is survived by children Donna Larson, John Jr. and his wife Maureen and James Polimeno and his late wife Jodi. Dear brother of Lawrence Polimeno and his wife Sandra and the late Arthur and Matthew Polimeno Jr. Brother in law of Lorraine English, Betty Prendergast and the late Helen Healy and Mary Polimeno. His legacy, as well as that of his adored wife Jeanne and best friend, who predeceased him, will be carried on by six wonderful and cherished grandchildren Danielle and her husband Rob, Katy, Andrew, Aimee, Matthew and Ariana.

Funeral from the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Wednesday, November 11th at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating John's Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Tuesday, November 10th from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and ramped entrance are available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Wood End Cemetery, Reading.
