John Anthony Sannella Jr. of Stoneham passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. He was 89 years of age.
Born and raised in Medford, John was the loving son of the late John Anthony Sannella Sr. and Edith (Basile) Sannella, and stepson to Nellie (Anella Sainato) Sannella.
John was a graduate of St. Clement High School and proud alumnus of Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. He subsequently served in the US Army Reserves as a Trained Medic and then entered a career that spanned a remarkable 53 years at Mt. Auburn Hospital, where he served as Chief of Pharmacy and Purchasing Officer. In that time, John obtained his Masters of Science in Pharmacy while working and raising 5 children.
John was deeply committed to his faith. He was a devoted parishioner at Saint Patrick Church in Stoneham for more than 60 years, where he served as President of the Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister.
When not working or volunteering, John could often be found in his yard tending to his spectacular garden, a hobby in which he took great pride. Likewise, he nurtured and grew his family with devoted love and care.
John was a loving and kind-hearted man who will be deeply missed. All that knew him were graced with his warm, happy personality and bright smile.
John was the beloved husband of the late Maureen M. (Horan) Sannella, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 57 years. He was the devoted father of Donna Cargill and her late husband John, John Sannella III and his wife Karin, Laurie Abdella and her husband Joseph, Maureen Hurley and her husband Lawrence, and Patrice Marcella and her husband John. He was the proud & cherished grandfather of Michael Sannella, Matthew Sannella, Andrew Abdella, Abigail Hurley, Katherine Hurley, Nicholas DiNapoli, Taylor DiNapoli, Adam DiNapoli and Amanda (DeVincent) Knapik, John was the dear brother of Marie Forti and her late husband Paul, and Bernadette Christopher and her late husband F. Kenneth. He was the adored brother-in-law of Robert Horan and his wife Claire, William Horan and his wife Lisa, Mary Horan and her late husband John, Nancy Horan and her late husband Paul, Joan Horan and her late husband Richard, Gail Horan and her late husband Stephen, the late James Horan and his late wife Ann and the late Isabelle Horan. John was the beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with John's Family on Wednesday, December 10 from 4-7pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street (RT 28) STONEHAM. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street (RT 28) Stoneham on Thursday, December 11 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating John's Eternal Life in Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central Street Stoneham at 10am. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
