John Charles Seeley lost his battle to cancer on Monday, June 17. He died quietly at home, surrounded by his adoring family.



John was born on September 5, 1937 in Houlton, Maine. He enlisted in the Army in1956 and served as a paratrooper in the 101st airborne for three years. He earned his bachelors in Business and Accounting in Hartford, CT. He lived with his family in Gardiner Maine for 30 years and built his career as the Director of the House of Audits for the State of Maine Department of Transportation in Augusta, Maine.



He tried to live life to the fullest and enjoyed music, reading, travel, food, movies, building things with his hands; he loved animals and children and enjoyed most of his days with his family. He was a devout Baptist and served as deacon and treasurer of his Church in Gardiner for many years. He was brilliant, courageous, wise, disciplined, loyal and a kind Father with the best and driest sense of humor and view of life. He is preceded in death by his Father, George W. Seeley and his Mother Muriel L. Appleby.



He is mourned by his wife, Soledad Espinoza Seeley, his son John C. Seeley Jr., daughter in law Donna M. Seeley in Texas, his daughter Oldita M. Doherty, son in law Michael C. Doherty in Massachusetts, grandchildren Hannah and Luke Seeley and Estella Doherty, his three sisters Delores Locke, and brother in law Robert Locke in Oakfield, ME, Gail Seeley in Portland, ME and Jane Tanner in Vallejo, CA and many loving nieces and nephews.



A private committal service will be held this fall at his family plot in Houlton, Maine. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation made to a cause very dear to him, the Humane Society or your local no kill animal shelter.
