John E. Sheehy

April 10, 1918 — January 8, 2006

John E. Sheehy of Andover and Reading passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at his home. He was 87 years of age.





Born in Andover, he was the beloved son of the late John J. and Mary Anne Sheehy. John was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all.





John was a dedicated practicing attorney for many years. He first graduated from St. Augustine's Elementary School. He then attended Punchard High School. Following that, he attended University of Alabama on a track scholarship. He graduated from Boston University and from Cornell Law School. He worked as an assistant to the Massachusetts Attorney General and then later was the director of the Right of Way for the Commonwealth Of Massachusetts for 6 years. John then continued in private law practice working at Feeney and Freeley until he retired at age 84. John belonged to numerous community service activities, namely the Andover Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Reading Holy Name Society. During World War II, John proudly served our country as a lieutenant in the United States Navy.





John was the beloved husband of 53 years to Mary T. (Colford) Sheehy, whom he married in 1952. He was the devoted father of Maureen and Sharon Sheehy, Laureanne Penta and the late John Anthony Sheehy. John was the cherished grandfather of Douglas and Jacqueline Penta and the dear brother of Catherine Finnegan. He was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.





Funeral from the Joseph Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Thursday at 8am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating John's life in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. Reading at 9am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8pm. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot located behind Atlantic Supermarket on Haven St. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery, Stoneham.
