John Sherman, 70, of Cape Porpoise, ME passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2009. Sherman was born in Reading, MA on October 10, 1939, the son of Jack and Frances Spurr. He was educated at New York Military Academy, Lawrence Academy and Dean College. Sherman was an avid car collector. Along with his brother Greg he owned a dragster and at one time was the driver. He was a lifetime member of the Orientals Hot Rod Club of Reading, MA. He served as President of the Inter Town Baseball League organization in the Cape Ann area of Massachusetts. Sherman's other passions were cooking, boating and his dogs, Magic and Emma Louise. He loved bringing his wife down the Batson River, Goose Rocks and surrounding islands. Sherman was a self employed businessman in Newburyport, MA for 26 years and had been very active in the business community. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Mary, his beloved children, Derek Spurr, daughter in law Laura and granddaughters Courtney and Chloe Spurr and his daughter Heather Kirwin and son in law Thomas. He is also survived by his brother and best friend Gregory Spurr and predeceased by his brother Kenneth Spurr, and many loving nieces and nephews and so many loyal friends. Sherman's family would like to extend many grateful thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses who cared so much and in particular, Beacon Hospice who made his last wishes possible.
