John W. Sullivan of Harrisville, Rhode Island, formerly of Reading passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Overlook Nursing Center in Pascoag, Rhode Island. He was 90 years of age.
Born in Boston, John was the loving son of the late William and Mary Sullivan and Gerald and Barbara Goggin. John was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed.
John was the General Manager of Atlantic Food Mart in both Reading and North Reading for many years. He was a member of the Pastoral Team of St. Agnes Parish Prayer Group for many years. John was very active with Meals on Wheels and an avid gardener. During World War II, John proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Navy.
Most of all, John was devoted to his family. They were first and foremost in his life. His love for them was unparalleled.
John was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite L. "Honey" (Jones) Sullivan. He was the devoted father of Jeannine Petrucci of Maine, Maureen F. Higgins and her husband Mike of Rhode Island, Paul F. Sullivan and his partner Dennis of Maine, Gerald G. Sullivan and his wife Marianne of Winchester, Diane M. McCarthy and her husband Robert of Haverhill, Cheryl A. Deyarmond and her husband Michael of New Hampshire, and the late John W. Sullivan Jr. John was the cherished grandfather of 16 & great grandfather of 3. He was the dear brother of the late Reverend Gerald Goggin, C.S.S. and the late Margaret Goggin. John was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating John's life in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Sunday from 2-6pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available.
