John J. Watson, 91, beloved husband of the late Alice (Donegan) Watson, passed away on Saturday, July 7th, at his home. Born in Brookline, he is the son of the late James F. and Gertrude (Benton) Watson.
John was a life-long resident of Reading and a graduate of Reading High School, class of 1945. He served his country in the United States Army. He served his town as a member of Town Meeting and was a local history buff. Along with his brother Theodore, John operated Watson Bros. Plumbing in Reading for more than 30 years. He was an active member and usher at Saint Athanasius Parish in Reading. John enjoyed going to antique car shows and most of all, was a loving and devoted grandfather to his grandchildren.
Loving Father of Joseph Watson and his wife Diane, Elizabeth Watson and her husband Robert Schudy, Michael Watson and his wife Karen, Thomas Watson and William Watson. Cherished grandpa to 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Loving brother of Barbara Burbine and of the late Robert Watson, Virginia McKinnon, Edward Watson, William Watson and Theodore Watson. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Doherty-Barile Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street READING, on Wednesday, July 11th at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating John's Eternal Life in Saint Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill Street, Reading at 10:30am.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories in the funeral home on Tuesday, July 10th from 3-7pm. Parking attendants will be available.
Interment will be in Wood End Cemetery, Reading.
