John J. Whalen

John J. Whalen of Reading passed away on Wednesday April 14, 2004 at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston.

Born in Wakefield, John was the son of the late Stanley and Mary J. (White) Whalen. John was a loving and caring son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by all.

John was a dedicated foreman for the town of Reading Department of Public Works for thirty years. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W., both in Reading. During World War II, John proudly served our country in the United States Army.

John was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Halloran) Whalen. He was the devoted father of Michael Whalen and his wife Angela of Peabody, Patricia Tassi and her husband Peter of North Reading, Marcia Allder and her husband Russ of New Hampshire, Mary Whalen of Reading and Maureen Conway and her husband Brian of Methuen. John was the loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren and the dear brother of Catherine DeFelice of Wakefield.

Funeral from the Joseph Doherty Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Monday at 8am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 9am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Sunday 3-7 pm. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot located behind Atlantic Supermarket on Haven St. Interment will be in Forest Glen Cemetery Reading.
