Joseph Henry Buczynski
December 25, 1940 – June 29, 2026
Joseph Henry Buczynski, 85, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026.
Born on Christmas Day in Lowell, Joe was the son of the late Henry Buczynski and Jennie (Jareck) Buczynski. A proud Lowell native, he returned to his beloved hometown for the past twenty-five years and enjoyed sharing its history and memories with his family.
Joe attended Keith Academy, Merrimack College, and the Culinary Institute of America. He dedicated his life to the culinary profession, owning a small diner in the mills of Wakefield and serving as chef at the Allenhurst, Frank’s Steak House, the Daniel Fuller House, the Corinthian Yacht Club, and the Chilton Club.
He was an active member and Grand Knight of the 4th degree Assembly of Knights of Columbus and a proud member of the Dom Polski Polish American Club in Lowell.
Joe had a lifelong love of trains and travel. He enjoyed numerous journeys throughout Europe, especially by rail through Switzerland and Austria, and made several cross-country trips aboard Amtrak to visit family and experience the beauty of the United States.
He was also an enthusiastic fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Joe loved polka music and dancing and enjoyed hosting the Polka Beat radio broadcast with Bob and Irene Jaracz. He often traveled hours away to enjoy a good polka weekend with friends and fellow enthusiasts.
Joe’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his four daughters, Lisa Buczynski-Pierce, Leanne Batten, Jennifer Moretto, and Amy McCarthy and her husband, Chris McCarthy; his cherished grandchildren, Nick Batten, Joseph and Timothy McCarthy, and Jenna and Garett Moretto; his beloved sisters, Barbara Nadeau and her late husband, Norm Nadeau, and JoAnn Cullen and her husband, John Cullen; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Joseph's Family on Friday, July 10th from 4-7pm in the Barile - Cota Family Funeral Home, 335 Park Street (corner of Park Street and RT 28), North Reading, at Reading line.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe’s memory to a charity supporting culinary education, rail preservation, or veterans’ organizations, causes that reflected his lifelong passions and values.
In keeping with Joe’s love of trains and adventure, his family takes comfort in knowing he has embarked on his final journey, carrying with him the memories and love of all whose lives he touched.
