Joseph P. Coogan of Stoneham passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 77 years of age. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
Joe was born in Everett where he attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Everett High School, class of 1956. Joe was an avid athlete who excelled at baseball, football and basketball and who loved all Boston sports teams. He awarded the Paul Manganaro Trophy each year to a deserving Everett High Football Player. Joe continued his athleticism throughout the years by participating in the softball over thirty and forty leagues in both Malden and Stoneham. He was a trusted employee of US Air for many years and was keeper of the US Air Rainy Day Fund. Most of all, Joe loved his family, especially his daughter Kimberlee whom he loved and adored. She meant the world to him.
Joe is the beloved husband of Shirley L. Coogan. He is the devoted father of Kimberlee DeCrescenzo and her husband Stephen of Reading. Joe is the cherished grandfather of Tiana, Domenic and Alana. He is the loving son of the late Laurence and Sarah (McCauley) Coogan. Joe is the dear brother of Marion Pare and her late husband Norman, Eileen Carey and her late husband Leo and the late Lawrence Coogan and his surviving wife Dorothy, Leo Coogan and his surviving wife Barbara, and Margaret Sapienza and her husband Louis. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Monday, April 11th at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Joe's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Sunday, April 10th from 3-7pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment at Saint Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
