Joseph F. Doherty

Joseph F. Doherty of Stoneham passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Woodbriar of Wilmington. He was 97 years of age.



Born in Boston, Joseph was the loving son of the late George and Margaret (Bell) Doherty. Joseph was a warm and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be sadly missed.



Joseph retired from the former M.D.C. Police in Boston, he was a former employee of the Boston Globe and Macom. Joseph drove the bus for the Stoneham Council of Aging. He was very active member and past member of Board of Directors VFW in Saugus, very active member of St. Patrick Church where he served as an usher and active member of the Knights of Columbus. Joseph was a Red Sox fan.



Joseph enjoyed his children and especially his grandchildren. He was proud of his Charlestown heritage where he was born and brought up in the shadow of the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown.



During WWII, Joseph proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Army.



Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Anne M. (Bickford) Doherty. Devoted father of Carol Collins and her husband Joseph of Marshfield, Joseph F. Doherty, Jr. and Lee Koski of Rindge, NH, Margo Lapietro and her husband Joseph of Bedford, NH, Elaine Dolan and her husband Edward of Halifax, Joyce Cotton and her husband Paul of Kennebunk, ME, Maureen Gormley and her husband Paul of Peabody and John M. Doherty of Stoneham. Cherished grandfather of 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Helen McLean, Margaret Daley and that late George Doherty, Edward Doherty and Patricia O'Brien. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.



Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Wednesday at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Joseph's life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10 am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Tuesday from 4-8 pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment with Military Honors at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
