Joseph Dougherty

d. July 30, 2008

Joseph Dougherty was born on August 8, 1960 in Philadelphia PA to Vera E. Dougherty and Joseph A. Dougherty. He grew up in Philadelphia and attended college at LaSalle University where he met and married Judith Anne Funchion, with whom he had three sons Kerry, Kyle and Christopher. He earned a B.A. in English and Communications and pursued a career in publishing. He was a devoted father and husband, a successful businessman and an active member in the Reading community.

In 1991 Joe and his family, moved to Reading after taking a position as an editorial director with Course Technology Incorporated in Boston. By the time he was 35 he was appointed to the position of CEO. He was an extremely hard working executive, which is evidenced by the success of CTI during his tenure. His effort, professionalism and kindness were appreciated by all of his colleagues.

In November of 2005 Joe was diagnosed with a primary brain tumor. Though the outlook was grim and the chance of survival was small, he attacked the research and treatment for this disease with the same determination and passion he used in every facet of his life prior to the diagnosis. Joe lost his battle to cancer on July 30, 2008 surrounded by his family. His active role in the community, devotion to his family and to the fight against brain cancer will forever stay in the minds of his three sons, Kerry, Kyle, and Christopher, two brothers, Peter and his wife Elizabeth and Paul and his wife Jo-Ann, his mother, Vera and many nieces and nephews.

It is his family's fervent wish that he is now the NBA point guard that, in his own mind, he always thought he could be!
