Julie Ann Hennessy

d. May 10, 2009

Julie Ann Hennessy died on May 10, 2009 after a long illness. She was fifty years old, just like Barbie, as she liked to tell us. She was born in Lincoln, Massachusetts on March 5, 1959 and grew up in Carlisle, Massachusetts. Julie received an Associate's Degree in Art from Bunker Hill Community College. When she was a young woman she moved to Alexandria, Virginia, a place she called home for nearly twenty years. In Alexandria she discovered a place rich in music and creativity. Julie found a place where she was able to nourish her artistic, beautiful, fun and whimsical spirit. Her portraits and drawings are wonderful. Julie met her soul mate Dan in Alexandria, Virginia. Julie's enjoyment and affection of the Grateful Dead must be included when talking about her. Lyrics from one of their sons personify what makes her be our beloved Julie. 'I have spent my life seeking all that's unsung. Bent my ear to hear the tune, and closed my eyes to see. When there were no strings to play, you played to me.'

Julie is survived by many friends and family. Her friend and soul mate Dan Rosen. Their special relationship brought Julie the greatest joy. Feline best friends Rico and Ghengis will miss her. Julie is survived by her sister, Jennifer Hennessy and husband Kevin Dodge from Deer Isle, Maine and her niece, Erin and family from Portland, Maine; her brother Frank Hennessy, wife Janice and niece Laurie and her family and niece Alexandria of Windham, New Hampshire; her sister Jeannette Hennessy and nephew Robbie of North Bergen, New Jersey; and her brother Paul Hennessy from Deer Isle, Maine. In addition, Julie is survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins, great nieces and nephews from all over the country. Julie was predeceased by her father and mother, Frank and Pauline; an infant brother and her nephew Mitch Gardner. Julie was proud to call herself a friend of Bill and thus leaves those special friends from all over the world.

Julie understood and empathized with the hardships and difficulties of our homeless brothers and sisters and enjoyed lots of friendships within this community. Julie's friends and family would like to honor Julie's spirituality and compassion by requesting instead of flowers, donations can be made to the United Way's Alexandria Community Impact Fund by accessing the web site www.unitedwaynca.org or to the Carpenter's Shelter, 930 North Henry St., Alexandria, VA 22314.

Julie's friends and family would like to thank the staff from the Casey Clinic, the NIH and Capital Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care. It made a difference.

There will be memorial services to celebrate her life at St. Patrick Parish on June 17, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in Stoneham. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham. Hey Pooh, hey Jules again we can find inspiration from your favorite musicians. Jerry Garcia and friends expressed it this way. 'What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through? A box of rain will ease the pain, and love will see you through.' Thank-you Julie, you enriched our lives.
