Kathleen "Kathy" (Sullivan) Driscoll

Kathleen “Kathy” (Sullivan) Driscoll passed away surrounded by her loving family, August 21, 2022 at age 70.

Born and raised in Stoneham, Kathy was the beloved daughter of the late James Sullivan and Kathleen (Culleton) Sullivan. She attended South Elementary School, a stone’s throw away from her home on Middlesex Road. She loved music and theater, and from a very young age knew she wanted to be a teacher and a mother. Kathy graduated Stoneham High School in 1970, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, drama club, and multiple choral groups. Kathy then attended Regis College where she majored in French and graduated magna cum laude. She later earned a master’s degree in education from Suffolk University.

In 1974, Kathy began a teaching career in Stoneham Public Schools that would span 43 years. Predominantly teaching 3rd grade, she spent time at the Robinhood, South, and Colonial Park elementary schools and built a legacy of excellence. It was essential to Kathy that all students felt loved in her classroom. That love was reflected back at her and out into the world, demonstrated by decades of letters, cards, and excited local run-ins with past students and parents. She was known for welcoming her students each day with a morning handshake, reading every book with various character voices, and classroom walls full of Boston sports memorabilia.

Kathy married John Driscoll of Stoneham in 1974. They soon moved to Melrose, where they raised four children: Caitlin, Megan, Sean, and Alyssa. As a mom, Kathy made every day an adventure that included exploring the local library, theaters, museums, and parks. She was active in her children’s schools, taught CCD, and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. Kathy never missed a game, recital, or event involving any of her children. Providing unconditional love and support, she was the heart and soul of the family. Words cannot describe how much her family loved her.

Kathy was happiest spending time with her family and many dear friends. Her home was always filled with music, laughter, food, festive decorations, and flowers.

A talented singer, Kathy shared her passion for music and regularly attended live performances, most recently Phil Collins. She was an avid Boston sports fan. Watching her beloved Tom Brady lead the Patriots was appointment television each week. Kathy was also an exceptional cook. Her family has so many treasured memories of all the gatherings she hosted, and are the honored recipients of her recipes, particularly her famous meatballs and chocolate cake.

Kathy was the cherished wife of John Driscoll for 48 years. She was the beloved mother of Caitlin (Driscoll) Clark and her husband Andrew, Megan Driscoll, Sean Driscoll and his wife Stephanie, and Alyssa Driscoll. Kathy was the adored grandmother (Nannie/Nana) of Nicholas Clark, Ryan Clark, and Oliver Driscoll, who she spoiled at every opportunity. She is also survived by many treasured friends and relatives.

To know Kathy was a gift. Her warmth, compassion, encouragement, and sense of humor graced everyone she met. She led by example and brought out the best in all of us. She will be so dearly missed, but all the love she gave during her life lives on in so many.
