Kathleen A. (Culleton) Sullivan passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 21, 2012 at age 88.
Born in Cambridge, Kathleen was the loving daughter of the late James L. Culleton and Catherine (Ward) Culleton. She lived in Watertown for the first 13 years of her life, attending St. Patrick School in Watertown. The family then relocated to Stoneham, where Kathleen spent the rest of her life.
She was secretary of the Stoneham High School Class of 1941 and enjoyed helping to coordinate class reunions and keeping in touch with her many friends. Upon graduation, at the age of 16, she started work as a secretary at Security Fence in Arlington, MA.
Kathleen married James E. Sullivan of Malden in 1947 and soon after they purchased their first and present home at 14 Middlesex Road. Kathleen was a devoted mother to her three children, Jim, Kathy and John. Working on the South School council, being a Girl Scout Leader and volunteering on numerous committees kept Kathleen happy and involved in their lives.
Kathleen first returned to work in 1964 as a secretary at the Stoneham High School and then the Stoneham Junior High School. She then worked for many years as the Secretary to the Board of Selectmen where she enjoyed greeting the public, researching information, and facilitating meetings. She retired in June of 1989.
Kathleen was an avid reader, terrific cook, and talented musician. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family and friends, as well as hosting large holiday gatherings. Kay and Jim enjoyed traveling and took many of their favorite trips with their dearest friends, Lorraine and Ed O'Donnell.
Kathleen was the beloved wife for 64 years of James E. Sullivan, who passed away on February 22nd. She was the devoted mother of James E. Sullivan, Jr. of New Hampshire, Kathleen S. Driscoll and her husband, Jake, of Melrose, and John L. Sullivan and his wife Deborah of Methuen. Kathleen was the cherished grandmother of Caitlin, Daniel, Caitlin, Megan, Joshua, Melissa, Michelle, Aaron, Sean and Alyssa. She was the loving great grandmother of Matthew, Natalie, Nicholas, and Evan. Kathleen was the dear sister of the late James Culleton, Elinor Meehan, and Thomas Culleton. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM, Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Kathleen's Eternal Life at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment St. Patrick 's Cemetery, Stoneham.
