Kathryn A. (Curtis) Evans

Kathryn "Kathy" Evans, a longtime resident of Reading, was born in Somerville on October 13, 1948, with her beloved identical twin, Alyce. A lifelong childcare advocate and educator, Kathy dedicated her career to nurturing children and families, earning her Bachelor's and Master’s in Education from Salem State. She worked for SEEM Childcare Center as a teacher and Director for 30 years, specializing in helping children from infants to kindergarten, including children with disabilities. She fostered countless teachers along the way, including inspiring many in her family to follow her footsteps into educational settings. She believed developing others was the best way to live a meaningful and rewarding life.

In her later career she taught middle school students at SEEM Collaborative in Stoneham where she was known for her creativity and passion for building community. A dedicated Catholic and vibrant member of the church, she taught CCD and other family focused courses, volunteering her time at Saint Athanasius Parish in Reading.

In retirement, Kathy continued to tutor reading and played a key role in helping to raise her two treasured grandchildren, teaching them to read and write and ensuring their happiness and care. Family was her greatest joy; she supported and celebrated her many nieces and nephews every step of the way.

Kathy is survived by her twin Alyce; sisters Marilyn and Grace; brothers Steve, Larry, and Walter; her daughters, Jennifer and Joslyn and son-in-laws, Joe Comeau and Nate Burke as well as her grandchildren August and Evan Comeau, and Cayden Burke. She will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and unwavering commitment to children and families.

A Funeral Mass Celebrating Kathy's Eternal Life will be held in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. in READING on Saturday September 20th, 2025 at 11:00 am.
