Kenneth W. Graczyk

d. May 18, 2010

Kenneth Walter Graczyk was born on April 16, 1948 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, fifth child of Genevieve (Mydlarz) and Henry Graczyk. He grew up in Chelsea, attending Chelsea public schools and then attended Everett Technical High School, where he trained as a printer. In 1968, he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam era and did basic training in Georgia. He served as a Senior Offset Pressman in the 500th Military Intelligence Group on Ford Island at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii until his honorable discharge in 1970. In 1972, he began work at Mount Auburn Hospital, where he soon became manager of graphic arts and printing and continued there for the past 38 years. During these early years at Mount Auburn, he enjoyed pitching for the hospital softball team and was a longtime leader of the Mount Auburn Recreation Association. Barbara Scholl and Ken met and worked together for many years at Mount Auburn Hospital and they married in 1985. Soon after their wedding, Ken and Barbara bought their first home in Malden and lived there until they moved to Stoneham in 1998. Ken was a proud father and devoted husband who always put his family first. In 1974, during Ken's first marriage, his first daughter, Emily, was born in 1974. Daughter Laura was born in 1990, Jill in 1992 and Kenny in 1996. Ken was involved in every aspect of his family's life, whether it was coaching Kenny's basketball team and cheering him on at baseball, attending the girls' dance and drama performances, or any task at home that needed doing. Ken lived for a time in Winthrop, near the ocean, which he always loved. Summer vacations at Cape Cod with his sister Barbara and her late husband Dick were a highlight through the years. Ken was also a creative artist who loved to paint small murals on the walls of his home, design cards and posters for friends and family and make anything he did a work of art. His sense of humor was legendary and he'd be making us all laugh right now if he could.

He was the Beloved husband of Barbara J. (Scholl) Graczyk. Devoted father of Emily Perkins and her husband Adam of Tewksbury, Laura Graczyk, Jill Graczyk and Kenneth Graczyk all of Stoneham. Cherished grandfather of John Walsh and Samantha Perkins both of Tewksbury. Dear brother of Barbara Meza and her late husband Richard of NY, Henry Graczyk and his wife Fran, Frank Graczyk and his wife Betty, Stanley Graczyk and his wife Terri all of Peabody and Patrick Graczyk and his wife Dee-Ann of NH. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Ken's life was held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham.
