After a long battle, Kenneth Morton, age 68, succumbed to complications from a double lung transplant on Sunday, October 11 at Massachusetts General Hospital with his immediate family at his side. Ken was born May 24, 1947 son of the late Kenneth B. Morton Sr. and Margaret (Taffinder) Morton in New York and grew up in Florida. He graduated from Auburn University in 1969 with a degree in Engineering.
Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry and completed his tour serving as a Captain and Army Ranger. After his tour in Viet Nam ended, Ken enrolled at MIT, where he earned a MS in Aeronautical Engineering. Ken subsequently left the Aerospace industry to enroll at the Harvard Business School, graduating with an MBA in 1978.
After several years in the commercial insurance business with INA, Ken joined Coopers & Lybrand in Boston as a Management Consultant. Ken developed an expertise in Management Information Systems and had a rich and varied career with senior positions at a number of leading organizations including: C&L, the Boston Company, KPMG Consulting and Fidelity Investments.
Ken was an avid jogger until his double lung transplant restricted his activity. He also collected rare coins and antiques.
Ken leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Sheila (London) Morton, their daughter Jennifer B. Morton , and sisters Michelle Volland of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Kathryn Rosenberg of Pittsford, NY.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 15th at 10am in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family prior to the Mass, beginning at 8:30am in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment with Military Honors at 2:15pm at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
